Meat Thermometers for Chicken Thighs

Use a narrow digital probe and aim for the thickest meat without touching bone. Check more than one thigh because size and heat exposure vary.

A meat thermometer for chicken thighs must fit into the thickest edible portion while avoiding the bone. A fast, narrow digital tip makes it easier to sample several spots on irregular bone-in thighs; a leave-in probe can help during roasting if its cable and probe are rated for that use.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

Where should the thermometer go in a chicken thigh?

Place the sensing area in the thickest meat, away from the bone and pan. Check another spot if the first placement is shallow or beside bone.

What temperature should chicken thighs reach in Canada?

Health Canada lists 74°C for poultry pieces such as thighs. Whole poultry has separate guidance.

Can touching bone change the thermometer reading?

Yes. Bone and nearby cavities can differ from the centre of the meat, so reposition the probe into the thickest flesh.

Should every chicken thigh be measured?

Check each piece because thighs differ in size and can receive uneven heat. Clean the probe between raw or partly cooked pieces and ready-to-eat food.
