Dashcam Apps for Android: Features and Compatibility

A recording app can use a phone camera, but the phone needs a secure mount, continuous power, enough storage and a clear view. Heat and interruptions from other phone functions also matter.

Check that the app supports the exact camera, then enable the permissions the manufacturer specifies. Some cameras create a local Wi-Fi connection even though initial pairing begins over Bluetooth.

That depends on the app and Android's battery-management rules. Companion apps normally leave recording to the dedicated camera, so closing the phone screen does not stop the camera itself.

Many compatible companion apps can preview or transfer saved footage. The camera may pause normal recording while its gallery or live-view connection is active, so check its manual.
