Fuse Taps for Dash Cam Hardwiring: Selection Guide

A fuse tap must match the vehicle’s fuse format and be installed in the correct orientation on a suitable circuit. The physical fit alone does not make a circuit safe for a dash cam.

Fuse taps for dash cam hardwiring create an additional fused branch from a vehicle fuse position. You must match the blade format, preserve protection for the original circuit and fit a separate fuse appropriate to the camera lead. Low-profile mini, mini, micro and standard taps are not interchangeable.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

What size fuse tap do I need for a dash cam?

Match the exact fuse-body format used in the chosen vehicle position. Compare dimensions and the vehicle manual rather than relying on colour.

Which way should a fuse tap face?

Orientation determines whether the new branch is properly fused. Identify the supply side of the slot with appropriate test equipment and follow the tap maker’s diagram.

Can I use any fuse slot for a dash cam?

No. Avoid safety-critical circuits and any position prohibited by the vehicle maker. Parking kits may require separate constant and ignition-switched feeds.

Does the dash cam need its own fuse in the tap?

Yes. The added accessory branch requires correctly rated protection, while the original circuit retains its specified fuse.
