Dashcam microSD Cards: Capacity, Speed and Endurance

Use a high-endurance card that appears on the camera maker's compatibility list. Capacity and speed markings matter, but repeated overwrite durability is the defining requirement.

A dashcam microSD card is written, erased and rewritten continuously, which is a harsher workload than ordinary phone storage. Start with the dash cam manufacturer's approved-card list and maximum supported capacity, then choose an endurance-rated card with the required speed class.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

What type of microSD card is best for a dash cam?

A high-endurance card approved for the exact camera is the safest choice. It must also meet the model's stated capacity and speed requirements.

Why does my dash cam keep asking me to format the card?

The file system may be incompatible, corrupted or due for routine reformatting. Follow the camera manual, save needed clips first and replace the card if errors return.

Does a bigger microSD card improve video quality?

No. It extends the amount of footage retained before overwriting, but image quality is determined by the camera and its recording settings.

Can I use a regular phone microSD card in a dash cam?

It may work initially, but cards not designed for continuous recording can wear prematurely. Use an endurance line where the manufacturer explicitly includes dash cam use.
