Free Radar Detector Apps and Speed Camera Alerts

A phone app by itself does not function as a radio-frequency radar detector. Apps may provide crowdsourced reports, camera locations or navigation alerts instead.

Crowdsourced reports generally need connectivity to receive updates, while downloaded maps or stored camera databases may work differently. Check the app’s current documentation and do not rely on alerts as a safety measure.

App rules can differ from rules for physical radar detectors and may vary by province. Physical detectors are permitted only in BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan for non-commercial vehicles, with commercial vehicles barred in Saskatchewan; they are prohibited in most other Canadian jurisdictions.
