Before you replace the line
Switch the trimmer off, remove its battery and wait for the head to stop completely. Check the model number and manual: Milwaukee heads do not all use the same loading method or line diameter.

Guide
For Milwaukee M18 models with the Easy Load head, align the eyelets, insert the correct line and turn the head to wind it. Check your model manual first because head designs and approved line sizes vary.

Switch the trimmer off, remove its battery and wait for the head to stop completely. Check the model number and manual: Milwaukee heads do not all use the same loading method or line diameter.
Milwaukee lists .080-inch and .095-inch line for its Easy Load head on compatible M18 trimmers. Use only the diameter permitted by your specific tool manual; line that is too thick can impair feeding or damage the head.
On the compatible Easy Load head, rotate the cap until its arrows align with the eyelets. Feed line through one eyelet and out the opposite side, pulling until both ends are even. Turn the cap in the marked direction to wind the line, leaving the recommended ends outside the head.
Milwaukee says the Easy Load head holds up to 25 feet of .080-inch line or 20 feet of .095-inch line. These capacities apply to that head; consult your own manual for another Milwaukee spool or replacement head.
Trim the ends to the length shown in the manual, refit any cap securely and clear loose line from the guard. Reinstall the battery only after the head is assembled, then test the feed in a clear area while wearing eye protection.
Runtime depends on battery capacity, grass density, line size and trigger use. Milwaukee describes its M18 platform as compatible across tools, but a larger battery can add weight; carry a charged compatible pack if the task is longer than one charge allows.
Remove the battery before inspecting the spool. Look for crossed or tangled line, an overfilled head, a blocked eyelet or a damaged cap. Rewind with even tension and replace worn parts using the model-specific parts list.
Common questions
First identify the Kobalt model and follow its manual, since some use a pre-wound replacement spool while others accept bulk line. Remove the battery before opening the head and use only the specified line size.
Check the Stihl model manual for its head type. For a reloadable head, use the stated diameter and loading direction; for a replacement-spool design, install the specified spool with the battery removed.
Craftsman models vary by head. Use the line size and winding path listed for your model, keep the battery out while loading, and avoid winding beyond the spool capacity.
For the Milwaukee Easy Load head, align the arrows and eyelets, pass line through both sides evenly, then turn the cap to wind. Verify that your exact M18 trimmer uses this head before following those steps.
Fit a charged compatible battery, hold the safety lock as directed, then squeeze the trigger. Controls vary by model, so use its manual and keep the cutting head clear of people and objects.
Release the trigger, wait for the head to stop, press the battery latch and slide the pack out as shown in the tool manual. Do not pull the pack by its contacts or remove it while the head is moving.
With the battery removed, open the compatible head and either rewind the specified line evenly or replace its spool. The Craftsman manual identifies which approach and line diameter your model requires.
Use the model-specific reload instructions: align the spool marks or feed line through the stated openings, then wind in the marked direction. Refit the cap fully before inserting the battery.
Remove the battery, confirm the line diameter and head type in the manual, then reload the spool as marked. Keep both line ends even and reassemble the head before restoring power.
