Guide

How to View Dashcam Clips on a Tesla

Park the vehicle, open the Dashcam app from the touchscreen app launcher, and select a saved clip by timestamp. You can also read the USB drive on a computer.

01

How do you view Tesla Dashcam clips on the touchscreen?

Put the vehicle in Park, open the app launcher, and touch the Dashcam icon. Choose a clip from the timestamped list; playback controls let you pause, rewind, or move forward. Opening the viewer pauses Dashcam recording.

02

Make sure the footage was saved

Tesla continuously overwrites unsaved Dashcam footage. Save an event using the configured manual method, automatic event setting, or honk option before it is overwritten; Sentry events are stored separately when that feature is active.

03

How to view Tesla Dashcam clips on a computer

Safely remove the USB drive when the camera is not writing, connect it to the computer, and open the TeslaCam folder. Browse RecentClips, SavedClips, or SentryClips as applicable, then open the timestamped video files.

04

Understand the multiple camera files

A saved event can contain separate views from the vehicle cameras rather than one combined movie. Match files by timestamp when you need to review the same moment from different angles.

05

Use the Tesla mobile viewer when supported

Tesla documents mobile viewing under Security and Dashcam Viewer for supported vehicles, app versions, settings, and connectivity. Availability can depend on vehicle configuration, region, software, and an eligible connectivity plan.

06

Preserve an important clip

Copy the entire relevant event folder to another storage location before editing or sharing it. Keep the original files and timestamps intact if the footage may be needed for an insurer or legal matter.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

Can I watch Tesla Dashcam clips on the car screen?

Yes. With the vehicle in Park, open the Dashcam icon from the app launcher and select a saved recording.

Where are Tesla Dashcam videos stored on the USB drive?

They are inside the TeslaCam folder, with subfolders used for recent, saved, and Sentry recordings depending on the vehicle software.

Why can’t I find a Tesla Dashcam clip?

Unsaved footage may have been overwritten, the event may be in a different subfolder, or the drive may not have been recognized when the event occurred.

Can you view Tesla Dashcam clips on a phone?

Tesla offers a mobile Dashcam Viewer on supported configurations. Check the current owner manual because app-version, vehicle, setting, and connectivity requirements apply.

Why are there several video files for one Tesla event?

Tesla stores camera views as separate files associated by time. Reviewing matching timestamps lets you see the event from the available angles.
