Dashcam That Records Speed with GPS Data

Choose a GPS-enabled camera that states exactly where speed is stored. Some burn it into the image; others retain it as data for playback software.

A dashcam that records speed normally uses GPS to associate velocity and location with each video clip. The camera may print speed directly on the picture, store it for compatible playback software, or do both. That distinction affects what you can see after copying the raw video to another device.

Questions before you buy

Do all GPS dashcams record speed?

Not necessarily in the same way. Some display speed on video, while others store location data that compatible software interprets.

Can I remove the speed stamp from a saved video?

If the value is burned into the image, removing it later may alter the footage. Set your overlay preference before recording and preserve originals.

How accurate is dashcam-recorded speed?

GPS speed can be useful context but may lag or degrade with weak satellite reception. It should not be treated as a calibrated instrument by default.

Will speed data remain when I copy the video?

A visible overlay remains in the image, but separate metadata may require the maker's player or companion software.

How should I save a clip that includes speed data?

Keep the original file and card structure when possible, make a separate working copy and document when the export was made.
