How a detector-detector works
Many radar detectors use receiver circuitry that can emit a small amount of energy. An RDD listens for emissions in its operating range; performance depends on both devices and conditions.

Guide
Some equipment can detect emissions from some radar detectors. Whether that matters depends on the detector, RDD, conditions and local law.
Many radar detectors use receiver circuitry that can emit a small amount of energy. An RDD listens for emissions in its operating range; performance depends on both devices and conditions.
Detector design, operating mode, distance, orientation and RDD model can all matter. A feature designed to reduce emissions is not proof no system can detect the device.
VG-2 is one particular detector-detector system. A VG-2 feature describes behavior relevant to that system, not universal protection against every RDD.
Rules differ by jurisdiction and vehicle category. Federal regulations prohibit detectors in commercial motor vehicles, while state laws may separately restrict interference devices.
An RDD discussion is not a reason to speed or evade enforcement. Follow posted limits and check current rules before using electronic equipment.
Common questions
An RDD may detect emissions from some detectors, but results depend on device design and conditions.
No blanket statement is reliable. Designs, RDD capabilities and operating conditions vary.
VG-2 is an RDD used to identify emissions from certain radar detectors, distinct from police speed radar.
A fully powered-down receiver should not emit as it does during operation, but follow its manual and do not infer legal status from that.
