Mobile WiFi Boosters for Home and Travel

A mobile WiFi booster can mean a portable router, cellular hotspot or home extender. Pick by the source of your internet connection and where you need coverage.

A mobile WiFi booster may mean a range extender for a weak area at home, a travel router for hotel WiFi, or a cellular hotspot for internet away from fixed broadband. Those devices solve different problems. A standard mobile WiFi range extender needs an existing WiFi signal to relay; it does not create internet service by itself.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

Is a mobile WiFi booster the same as a hotspot?

No. A hotspot shares a cellular data connection over WiFi, while a range extender relays an existing WiFi network. A travel router can connect to hotel WiFi and create a local network, depending on its features.

Can a WiFi extender boost my phone’s cellular signal?

No. A WiFi range extender only relays WiFi. Cellular coverage requires a solution specifically designed and approved for cellular service, or a WiFi calling setup supported by your carrier and phone.

Can I take a home WiFi extender on a trip?

You can travel with a compact extender, but setup may depend on captive portals, network security and access to the host router. A travel router designed for those conditions may be more convenient.

Does a mobile WiFi signal booster need a SIM card?

A WiFi extender does not. A cellular hotspot generally uses a carrier connection and may require a SIM or built-in service, depending on the model.
