Dashcam Polarising Filters for Windshield Reflections

A compatible circular polarizing filter can reduce dashboard glare in daylight. Fit and alignment matter, and darker footage is the tradeoff.

A dashcam polarising filter—usually sold in the US as a polarizing or CPL filter—can suppress reflections from the dashboard and windshield. It is most useful when bright trim or a pale dashboard appears across daytime footage. It cannot remove every reflection, and because it reduces incoming light, night scenes may look darker.

Questions before you buy

What does a dashcam polarising filter do?

It reduces selected reflected light, which can make windshield and dashboard reflections less visible in daytime recordings.

Does a CPL filter make dash-cam video darker?

Yes. Polarizing material reduces some light, so low-light footage can become darker even when daytime glare improves.

Can any CPL filter fit any dash cam?

No. Mount shape, lens position, enclosure clearance, and field of view differ between models.

How should I align a dash-cam polarizing filter?

View a bright reflective scene through the camera and adjust the filter to minimize the reflection. Recheck after moving the mount or camera angle.
