Record Car Cameras and Automatic Dash Cam Recording

A car camera normally records automatically when it receives power, then loops over ordinary old clips. Important footage still needs to be protected and backed up promptly.

A record car camera is designed to capture driving without requiring you to press a button every trip. In a typical dash cam auto record setup, vehicle power starts recording and loop mode replaces the oldest ordinary files as the card fills.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

Do dash cams automatically start recording?

Many start when they receive power from the vehicle. The exact behavior depends on the power outlet, wiring and camera settings.

Does a dash cam delete old recordings?

Loop recording usually overwrites the oldest unprotected clips when storage fills. Locked files may be handled separately and can eventually fill their allocated space.

How do I save a dash cam recording?

Use the camera's event or save control, then export the clip through its app, card reader or cable. Preserve the original file and avoid editing the only copy.

Will a dash cam auto record while parked?

Only with a supported parking mode and compatible power arrangement. Impact, motion, buffered and continuous modes behave differently.
