X, K and Ka identify radar bands
These labels refer to frequency bands. Uniden lists X, K and Ka detection on its R8 product page, with model-specific frequency specifications; other detectors may cover or display bands differently.

Guide
A band label identifies a type of detected signal; it does not by itself prove that police are measuring your speed. Exact codes and tones vary by detector.

Ka is one radar band used by speed-measuring equipment, but a detector alert is not proof of a police source. Consult your model manual and consider the displayed frequency and context.
Uniden notes that automotive safety sensors can trigger K-band alerts. Filtering may reduce nuisance alerts, but the manufacturer warns that filtering can also reduce the chance of alerting to genuine K-band signals.
Laser alerts refer to optical detection rather than the X, K or Ka radio-frequency bands. Detection can depend on line of sight and may arrive too late to serve as advance notice.
VG-2 is associated with radar detector detection equipment, not a police speed-measurement band. The alert wording and response depend on the detector.
Codes, abbreviations, tones and menu options are product-specific. Find the manual through the manufacturer’s support page and match its model number to your device.
Common questions
Ka is a radar frequency band. An alert means the detector reports a signal in the configured Ka range; it does not alone establish the source.
K identifies a radar band, but vehicle safety sensors and other sources can also trigger alerts. Check the detector’s display and manual.
It indicates that the detector senses laser or LIDAR light. It is distinct from radio radar bands such as K and Ka.
VG-2 refers to radar-detector-detection equipment. It is not a speed reading or another radar band.
