Mirror Dash Cam Mounts: Fit, Clearance, and Stability

A mirror-stem bracket can reduce adhesive on the glass, but only when its clamp and camera adapter match exactly. Check mirror movement and sensor clearance before buying.

A mirror dash cam mount attaches a camera to the rear-view mirror stem or its nearby support rather than sticking directly to the windshield. The arrangement can look tidy and can be repositioned, but a secure result depends on the clamp diameter, stem shape, available length, and the camera's mounting interface.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

Can any dash cam use a mirror mount?

No. The bracket must fit both the vehicle's mirror stem and the camera's attachment point. Proprietary magnetic or adhesive mounts often need a model-specific adapter.

Will a mirror dash cam mount cause vibration?

It can if the arm is long, the joints are loose, or the mirror stem flexes. A short rigid bracket with correctly tightened hardware is generally more stable.

Does a mirror mount damage the rear-view mirror?

An incorrectly sized or overtightened clamp can mark trim or stress a stem. Use protective inserts supplied for the bracket and do not clamp to wiring or sensor covers.

Is mounting a dash cam below the mirror legal?

Windshield-obstruction rules vary by state and location. Keep the camera outside the driver's critical view and check current local requirements.
