Rear View Mirror Mounted Dash Cams: What to Check

A mirror-mounted camera can add a wide digital rear view without another screen on the windshield. Measure the factory mirror and plan the rear-camera wiring before choosing one.

A rear view mirror mounted dash cam straps over or replaces the factory mirror, combining a wide display with front and rear recording. It can help when passengers, cargo or vehicle bodywork obstruct the optical mirror, but the display is only as useful as its rear camera, cable route and screen visibility.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

Does a mirror dash cam replace the rearview mirror?

Some models strap over the existing mirror; others offer an OEM-style replacement bracket. Confirm the mounting method and vehicle compatibility for the exact package.

Can a mirror-mounted dash cam show the rear camera all the time?

Many can display a continuous rear feed while recording. The viewing angle and image orientation are usually adjustable in settings.

Will a mirror dash cam fit every vehicle?

No. Mirror size, sensor housings, sun visors, rear-cable length and mounting geometry can prevent a clean fit.

Does the reversing wire have to be connected?

The rear camera can often record without it, but automatic reverse view and parking guidelines may depend on the trigger wire. Follow the model manual.
