Can You Use a WiFi Extender as a Router?

Some extenders create WiFi from Ethernet in access point mode; that does not make them a router replacement.

A WiFi extender as router search can mean repeating WiFi or using access point mode to create WiFi from Ethernet. These are different operating modes. TP-Link lists both Range Extender and Access Point modes for RE605X; access point mode relies on a wired connection, while extender mode relays an existing wireless signal. Neither automatically supplies internet service.
