Dashcam USB Cable Guide for Power, Data and Fitment

Match the connector and the camera maker’s power specification first. USB-C describes the plug, not the voltage, current or whether a cable supports data.

A dashcam USB cable must do more than fit the socket: it must deliver the voltage and current required by the camera across the full cable length. A poorly matched dash cam USB power cable can cause restarts, corrupt clips or intermittent recording.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

Can I use any USB cable for a dash cam?

No. The connector may fit while the cable or adaptor fails to supply the required power. Follow the exact camera manual and use a cable rated for the stated input.

Does USB-C mean a dash cam is wireless?

No. USB-C is a physical connector. The camera still uses a cable for power, and Wi-Fi normally transfers clips or settings rather than powering the device.

Why does my dash cam keep restarting?

An inadequate adaptor, damaged cable, loose connector or failing memory card can cause restarts. Test with the manufacturer-specified cable and power source before replacing the camera.

What USB drive does Tesla Dashcam need?

Tesla specifies minimum storage performance and formatting requirements in its owner documentation. Check the instructions for your vehicle software and do not confuse the storage device with a dash cam power cable.
