Dashcam USB Cables: Connectors, Power and Replacements

Match the connector and electrical specification to the exact camera. A cable that fits can still be unsuitable for stable recording or data transfer.

A dashcam USB cable must match more than the shape of the socket. Cameras use USB-C, Mini USB, Micro USB and proprietary connections, and the required power can differ. Check the model manual or official accessory page before replacing a lead. VIOFO specifies USB-C on the A119 Mini 2, while older Nextbase Series 2 hardwire accessories use a Mini USB camera connection.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

What USB cable does my dash cam need?

Identify the exact camera model, then check its manual for the connector and power input. Connector shape alone is not proof of compatibility.

Can I use any USB-C cable for a dash cam?

Not safely by assumption. Use a cable and power source that meet the manufacturer's input specification and support data if you need computer file access.

Why does my dash cam restart with a replacement cable?

A long, damaged or poor-quality lead can cause voltage drop, and the power adaptor may also be inadequate. Test with the original approved cable and adaptor.

Are dash cam USB cables data cables?

Some are, but power-only leads exist. Check the product description before expecting a computer to recognise the camera or storage.

How long should a dash cam power cable be?

It should reach the power source along a safe concealed route with a little service slack. Avoid excess cable near pedals, steering controls and airbags.
