A data camera suits lap review, an action camera suits creative and external angles, and a dash cam suits automatic continuous recording. The best type follows the intended footage.

It may record the session, but its mount, heat tolerance and motion rendering may not be designed for competition. The venue or sanctioning body's camera rules still apply.

Use an approved rigid location that does not obstruct the driver, controls or safety equipment. Follow event rules on mounts, tethers and roll-cage attachment.

Some dedicated motorsport systems combine video with GPS, lap timing or vehicle inputs. Ordinary action cameras and dash cams may provide video only or limited location data.
