Dash Cam Mounts for Cars: Fit and Placement Guide

Use the manufacturer-specific adhesive mount for the neatest, most stable installation. A suction mount is easier to move, but compatibility and visibility rules still come first.

A dash cam mount must hold the lens steady, keep controls accessible and avoid obstructing your view. The correct choice is usually the mount designed for the exact camera, because ball joints, power contacts and release mechanisms are not standardised.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

Is an adhesive or suction dash cam mount better?

Adhesive mounts are compact and usually more stable, while suction mounts are easier to remove. Choose according to the camera maker's approved mounting options and your need to move the unit.

Can I place a dash cam anywhere on the windscreen?

No. It must not obstruct the driver's view, and local road rules apply. A common position is high behind or beside the rear-view mirror, subject to the vehicle and camera design.

Why does my dash cam mount keep falling off?

Contamination, textured tint film, a worn suction cup or unsuitable adhesive can weaken the hold. Clean and dry the approved surface, then use the replacement pad specified for that mount.

Can a universal camera mount fit any dash cam?

No. Check the connector, thread, load rating, power interface and adjustment clearance. A physical fit alone does not prove that the mount will stay secure in a hot vehicle.
