Dashcam Batteries for Parking Mode and Reliable Power

A dedicated battery pack can run parking mode without drawing directly from the starter battery while parked. A camera’s internal supercapacitor serves a different purpose and is not an overnight power source.

Dashcam batteries are external packs designed to charge while the vehicle runs and supply a camera during parking. They can reduce reliance on the starter battery, but runtime varies with capacity, camera draw, channel count, temperature and recording activity. Match the input cable, output and charging method to the camera and vehicle.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

How long will a dashcam battery run parking mode?

There is no single runtime. Divide usable pack capacity by the complete camera system’s average parking draw, then allow for conversion losses, temperature and battery ageing.

Will a dash cam battery drain the car battery?

A dedicated pack charges from the vehicle while driving, but its installation and charge current still need to suit the circuit and driving pattern. Follow the pack maker’s wiring instructions.

Is a supercapacitor the same as a dashcam battery?

No. A supercapacitor helps a camera save files and shut down through brief power interruptions; it is not intended to power long parking sessions.

Can I use any battery pack with any dash cam?

No. Check voltage, connectors, output behaviour, parking-mode signalling and the manufacturer’s compatibility list before connecting equipment.
