Dash Cams with SIM and LTE Connectivity

A connected dash cam can send alerts or footage away from the vehicle, but only with compatible mobile service, a plan and ongoing power. Ordinary camera Wi-Fi does not provide the same remote access.

A dash cam with SIM connectivity uses a mobile network to communicate when you are away from the car. Depending on the system, that can enable remote live view, location features, theft alerts or cloud uploads. It is different from Wi-Fi, which often connects only to a nearby phone.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

Does a dash cam with SIM need a subscription?

Connected services commonly require an active plan, although terms vary. Check which features remain available without it before choosing a camera.

Can I put my own SIM in a dash cam?

Only if the manufacturer explicitly supports a user-provided SIM and the required network bands. Many connected cameras use an integrated service instead.

Is dash-cam Wi-Fi the same as LTE?

No. Local Wi-Fi usually links the camera to a nearby phone; LTE can provide internet connectivity when compatible service and coverage are available.

Will remote viewing work when the car is off?

It may when the camera supports parked remote access and has continuous protected power. The vehicle socket alone may switch off with the ignition.
