Common questions
Questions before you buy
Should I turn off K band on my radar detector?
There is no universal setting: K band can be used by enforcement equipment in some regions, while other devices can trigger alerts. Follow the detector manual and local guidance; do not disable a band unless you understand what detection capability you lose.
Who invented the radar detector?
There is no single inventor of the modern consumer radar detector. The devices developed from radio receivers and detection technologies, with multiple manufacturers contributing over time.
What do radar detector bands mean?
X, K and Ka name radio-frequency ranges that a detector may monitor. The exact frequencies and relevance differ by country, so use the model manual for the market where you drive.
Can police detect your radar detector?
Some detector models claim resistance to radar-detector-detector equipment, but that is model-specific and not a guarantee of invisibility. Check the manufacturer documentation and the law for each jurisdiction.
Is a radar detector worth it?
It depends on whether compatible enforcement signals are used where you drive and whether the device is lawful there. A GPS camera alert product serves a different purpose and may be more relevant for mapped UK camera locations.
Where should I put a radar detector?
Follow the mounting instructions for the exact unit, keep its sensors unobstructed and ensure it does not block your view. Check local rules about windscreen-mounted devices.
Why is my radar detector not working?
Check power, mounting orientation, enabled bands, GPS lock and current firmware or database. A unit designed for another region may not recognise local systems.
