Car Camera Alarm Systems: Parking Alerts and Recording

A camera can record or notify you of an event, but it does not replace an immobiliser or physical security. Choose the response you need—local recording, a phone alert or an audible alarm—then check the power and network requirements.

A car camera alarm system combines some form of event detection with recording or an alert. Parking-mode dash cams may respond to impact or motion; connected systems may send a notification if the camera has power and data access. Neither function physically prevents theft, and constant recording can drain a vehicle battery without suitable low-voltage protection.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

Can a dash cam work as a car alarm?

It can detect and record selected parking events, and some connected models can notify a phone. It normally cannot immobilise the vehicle or guarantee an immediate alert.

Will a parking camera drain the car battery?

It can if power is unmanaged. Use the manufacturer's supported low-voltage cut-off or battery solution and have hardwiring installed correctly.

Can a car camera send an alert to my phone?

Some connected models can, but the camera needs compatible cloud service, network access, power and correct settings.

Are police in-car cameras the same as consumer dash cams?

No. Police systems may integrate multiple cameras, controlled access and formal evidence management, while consumer cameras usually store clips locally or in a commercial cloud.
