Point-to-Point WiFi Extenders for Separate Buildings

A point-to-point WiFi link connects two locations using aligned radios; it is not the same as a power point wall socket extender. For an ordinary wall-plug repeater, see the indoor options instead.

A point to point WiFi extender creates a wireless connection between two fixed locations, often a house and a detached shed. It normally uses directional outdoor devices aimed at each other, with power and Ethernet planned at both ends. TP-Link's Pharos CPE510 is a documented outdoor CPE for point-to-point applications.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

What is a point-to-point WiFi extender?

It is a wireless bridge between two fixed places. Directional outdoor CPE devices are aligned across the route so a network can reach a separate building without relying on an indoor repeater to pass through walls.

Is a power point WiFi extender a powerline adapter?

Sometimes the wording refers to a plug-in WiFi repeater; a powerline adapter is different and uses the home's electrical wiring to carry network data between paired units. Check which product type you need before purchasing.

Can a point-to-point link connect a house to a shed?

Yes, a suitable outdoor bridge can serve this use when both endpoints have a clear path, correct alignment, power and network connections. Trees, terrain and Australian radio requirements affect the design.

Does TP-Link CPE510 work as a point-to-point bridge?

TP-Link describes CPE510 for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint outdoor wireless applications and lists bridge-related operating modes. It requires installation and configuration rather than a simple plug-in setup.
