Dashcam Cords: How to Choose a Compatible Replacement

Buy by exact camera model and cable purpose. A power lead, rear-camera cable and hardwire kit may share a connector shape but are not interchangeable.

A dashcam cord should be matched to the camera model, connector and job it performs. The lead from a vehicle adapter powers the main camera; a rear-camera cable carries data and power between matched units; a hardwire kit converts vehicle power and may add low-voltage protection. Similar-looking plugs do not prove electrical or data compatibility.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

Are all dashcam power cords the same?

No. Connectors, voltage conversion, current capacity, wiring and pin use can differ. Match the exact model and manufacturer specification.

Can I extend a rear dash cam cable?

Only with an extension approved for that camera system. An arbitrary extension can cause signal loss, voltage drop or connector damage.

Why does my dash cam restart while driving?

An unstable adapter, loose plug, damaged cable or insufficient power can cause restarts. Check the full power path and the camera maker's required supply.

Is a hardwire kit just a longer dashcam cord?

No. A hardwire kit connects to vehicle power and typically includes conversion and protection components. It must be compatible and installed correctly.
