Car Camera Surveillance for Driving and Parking

Choose coverage and power before chasing extra features. Front-and-rear recording sees more of the vehicle, while parking surveillance needs a protected supply and clear privacy settings.

Car camera surveillance can mean ordinary journey recording, parking monitoring or a multi-camera system covering the cabin and road. Decide which events you need to capture first. A front camera cannot show every side of a parked vehicle, and an in-car camera surveillance system may record passengers as well as public space.

Common questions

Questions before you buy

Can a car camera record while the car is off?

Yes, if the model supports parking mode and has a suitable permanent power source. A compatible hardwire kit or battery pack may be required.

Can a dash cam provide full car surveillance?

Not usually. Camera count, lens direction and obstructions create blind spots, so even multi-channel systems cannot guarantee complete coverage.

How long does parking surveillance footage stay saved?

That depends on storage capacity, recording quality, channel count and overwrite settings. Protected event clips may be handled differently from ordinary loop files.

Do I need to think about privacy when using an in-car camera?

Yes, especially if it records passengers, employees or footage for business use. The ICO provides guidance on video surveillance and data-protection responsibilities.
