360 View Car Camera and Dashcam Buying Guide

'360 view' can mean one panoramic cabin lens, several recording cameras or a parking display that does not save video. Check the recorded viewpoints before choosing.

A 360 view car camera is only useful when you know what '360' describes. One dashcam 360 view product may use a panoramic interior lens, another may combine front, rear and cabin cameras, while a factory car camera 360 view system may exist mainly to display low-speed parking surroundings without storing journey footage.

Questions before you buy

Does a 360 car camera record every side of the vehicle?

Not necessarily. Coverage depends on lens position, bodywork and software, and there can still be blind areas around pillars or close to the vehicle.

Is a factory surround-view camera a dash cam?

Usually it is designed to assist low-speed manoeuvring. Do not assume it saves continuous footage unless the vehicle manual explicitly says so.

Is one 360-degree lens better than front and rear cameras?

A panoramic lens captures broad context, while separate outward-facing cameras can devote more image area to the road ahead and behind. The better layout depends on the evidence you want.

Does a 360 view dashcam work while parked?

Only when the model supports parking recording and receives suitable power after the ignition is off.
