Dash Cam G Sensor Features Explained

A G-sensor detects sudden acceleration or impact and marks the current recording for protection. It does not detect every incident or power a parked camera by itself.

A dash cam G sensor is an accelerometer used to recognise sharp movement. When its threshold is crossed, the camera normally locks or flags the relevant loop-recording file so routine recording is less likely to overwrite it.

Questions before you buy

What is a G sensor in a dash cam?

It is an accelerometer that detects rapid changes in movement and can tell the camera to protect the current video file.

Should dash cam G sensor sensitivity be high or low?

Start with the manufacturer's normal setting. Reduce sensitivity if ordinary bumps create too many protected files, or increase it cautiously if valid events are missed.

Does a G-sensor work when the car is parked?

Only if the dash cam's parking mode and power arrangement support impact detection while the ignition is off.

Can G-sensor files fill the memory card?

Yes, on some cameras protected files are managed separately from ordinary loops. Review and back up useful clips, then follow the manual for formatting and storage maintenance.
